Welcome to Bootcamp! The Fashion Law Institute is pleased to offer a unique annual Summer Intensive Program, fondly known as Fashion Law Bootcamp, an opportunity to experience the newly defined field of fashion law outside of the regular law school curriculum.
This summer our 3rd annual Fashion Law Bootcamp will introduce you to the substance of style, with emphasis on current business and legal issues involving the global fashion industry. Participants attending Bootcamp will explore diverse areas that affect the fashion industry and are at the heart of the Fashion Law Institute, including intellectual property, business and finance, international trade and government regulation, and consumer culture and civil rights. Within these categories, specific topics include the protection of fashion designs, counterfeiting, licensing agreements, fashion financing, garment district zoning, real estate, employment issues from designers to models, consumer protection, sustainability and green fashion, import/export regulations, sumptuary laws, and dress codes.
The program is run by Professor Susan Scafidi, Founder and Academic Director of the Institute, who pioneered the field of fashion law. She is the first professor to create a course in the area – covering the same material as Fashion Law Bootcamp – and is internationally recognized for her expertise. The program will also feature guest lecturers from the fashion industry.
Fashion Law Bootcamp is open to law students, lawyers, fashion industry professionals, and others in the U.S. and abroad who are interested in broadening their knowledge of the law and business of fashion. The program is an excellent way for fashion industry professionals to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the legal issues that they deal with on a regular basis, or for practicing lawyers to expand their current practice or even jump start a change in career. Individuals who have not yet had academic or practical exposure to the law and business of fashion, including design students and other undergraduates entering their final year of study, are eligible to apply but must have a demonstrated scholastic aptitude and willingness to take on the challenge of studying legal materials. While there are no specific prerequisites to the program and this is an introductory-level course, reading cases and engaging in legal analysis will be required.

| 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM | Law and the Gospel of Life II
After the inaugural lecture delivered by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the series continues this year, with Erika Bachiochi to offer an approach to sexual equality and reproductive justice inspired by Catholic principles of embodiedness, sexual equality in difference, and solidarity.
"The "feminist" question is at the heart of much debate in law and politics today, with ever-rancorous division on the issues of abortion, contraception, the role of women and men in the family and wider society. Bachiochi will explore the respective presuppositions of secular feminists and "new (Catholic) feminists", discuss trends in abortion law and sexual economics, and consider common goals and potential opportunities for collaboration.

Erika Bachiochi
A legal scholar on American Constitutional Law and feminist legal theory. She has a JD magna cum laude from Boston University School of Law, and an MA with distinction from Boston College, where she was a Bradley Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Religion and Politics. She obtained her BA magna cum laude in Political Science and Sociology from Middlebury College. Bachiochi has been published in leading scholarly publications such as the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy and the Oxford University journal, Christian Bioethics. In addition, in 2004, Bachiochi published The Cost of Choice: Women Evaluate the Impact of Abortion, and in 2010, Women, Sex & the Church: A Case for Catholic Teaching. She has lectured at Harvard, Harvard Law, Princeton, Dartmouth, and other colleges and law schools throughout the country.

Scanlon is the founder and principal of the Law Offices of Kathleen M. Scanlon, PLLC in New York, NY. Ms. Scanlon is an experienced litigator and advocate representing clients in a broad-range of matters, including business disputes and ethical responsibility matters. Ms. Scanlon was lead counsel for Plaintiffs in the Application of FEMINISTS CHOOSING LIFE OF NEW YORK, INC., et al v. EMPIRE STATE STEM CELL BOARD, and RICHARD F. DAINES, M.D., as COMMISSIONER OF THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. Prior to founding her own firm, Ms. Scanlon practiced law with major law firms in New York City. Ms. Scanlon is a long-standing Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham Law School where she teaches International Arbitration, ADR and Professional Responsibility courses. Ms. Scanlon is a graduate of Brown University (A.B. Economics, 1981, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Fordham University School of Law (J.D., 1986, cum laude) where she was an Associate Editor of the Fordham law Review.

Join us and help stop the fraudsters by empowering consumers!
The Feerick Center for Social Justice is holding an Orientation for its False and Deceptive Advertising Project. This is a partnership with the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs and LaGuardia Community College (LCC). The projects trains law school J.D. and LL.M. Fordham students and LaGuardia Community College students on false and deceptive advertising. Students co-present at LCC classes for adult and ESOL learners.
